What is your favorite thing about singing? What inspires you about it?
Singing is my favorite thing to do in the world. Music is a universal language that anyone can understand. There is something about music that transcends all need of words, surpasses reason, and shoots straight for your heart and soul. I love being a part of expressing that universal language: being the translator or messenger to the rest of the world. Music makes more sense to me than anything in the world. There is nothing else that can make everything bad disappear, and everything good infinitely better. Singing is the way in which I can best express music, so I sing constantly. I love to sing!

What are your plans after high school?
After high school, I plan to go to college and study musical theatre. When I finish college, I want to work in the field of entertainment doing anything and everything that that involves. I think my strongest desire is to be a performer, but if that does not work out, I would love to write, direct, produce, tech, or anything else. All I know is that I want to spend the rest of my life in entertainment and I will do what it takes to make it in this business.

What are your dreams/goals in life?
My dream is to be a successful entertainer. Now, my ideas of "success" and "entertainer" are probably different than yours, so let me explain. Being an entertainer encompasses every aspect of the profession: performing, writing, directing, producing, teching. If I am doing at least one, if not all, of those for the rest of my life, I will be happy. That is one part of success. The second is happiness. If I can make people happy by constantly doing what I love, that is success to me. It does not matter if that happens on a large scale or small. If I can make one person happy each day, for the rest of my life, by obtaining my goal to tell stories and give people music and art, I will have been a success.

Why did you want to participate in Spotlight?
Spotlight is a great opportunity for high school students to really hone in on their skills and practice auditioning. The purpose of performing and auditioning is not for the actual show or audition, it is for you to get better. You are only up there for a couple of shows at the most, and at an audition, you are only in front of the panel for five minutes, so the reason for engaging in these experiences is to use the preparation time to gain more skills. I had heard great things about Spotlight from my friends and I remember watching a Spotlight show on T.V. and wanting to do it. The first year I was eligible, I auditioned and have been doing so ever since, in both classical and non-classical voice. I had never made it past the preliminary rounds of either, but I kept coming back for the audition practice. Spotlight runs the most incredible, warm, fuzzy auditions you will ever be a part of, so it is a great way to build confidence, which is probably the most crucial component of auditions.

What qualities do you believe helped make you into the successful artist that you are today?
My determination to get it right and strive for perfection, my love for my art, the amazing opportunities I have been given, and my incredible teachers are the major components of my success thus far.

What was the most important thing you learned from doing Spotlight?
The most important things I have learned from Spotlight so far are to be confident, not to give up, and smile. Confidence is probably the most important part of auditioning because, in an audition, people are looking for someone who will be able to hold their own and not need to have their hand constantly held. Determination is the key to this profession and Spotlight has encouraged me never to give up. I auditioned for Spotlight for two years before I even made it past the preliminary rounds. Spotlight has given me proof that if you keep trying, you are much more likely to succeed. Spotlight let me practice not being so nervous during auditions because everyone running the program has been more than helpful and encouraging. Being able to walk into an audition with a smile on my face has proved to be one of the most important skills I have.

What other skills or talents do you have that other people may not know about you?
Although singing is my main passion, as I said before, I love anything and everything to do with entertainment. I love writing and composing, I have recently finished writing my own full length musical called, Legends Ourselves, and any free time I ever have is spent at the piano or in front of a notebook writing down my new ideas. I recently wrote, directed, and produced my own one act called FEAR. I am also interested in all aspects of movie making. I love writing screenplays, filming them, then editing them. I currently have one on the verge of final edits, called Illusions. Even though I love being behind the scenes, I think I get the most joy out of performing.
