Performing and Visual Arts Applications are now closed. 2011 applications will be available mid-August 2010!

  • Students of all talent levels are encouraged to apply
  • You must be enrolled in high school, approved independent study, or home school program at the time of the application deadline
  • Eligible counties: Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, Ventura, Santa Barbara, and San Diego
  • If you attend a correspondence school, you must be living in Southern California
  • Previous grand prize finalists are not eligible
  • Previous participants, semifinalists, and honorable mentions are eligible
  • Students must disclose any relationship with a judge participating in the Spotlight Awards program (family, friend, or instructor).
  • Failure to disclose information may result in the immediate disqualification of the student and judge
  • You may apply to more than one category. The 8 categories are: Ballet, Non-Classical Dance, Classical Voice, Non-Classical Voice, Jazz Instrumental, Classical Instrumental, Photography, and Two-Dimensional Art. You may only submit one application per category. Should a student advance to the finals, he/she may compete in only one category.
  • Make up auditions can be scheduled in an emergency and at the sole discretion of the Director of the Spotlight Awards
  • Please refer to the categories in the Quicklinks for specific category guidelines and repertoire requirements
For Foreign Students: In order to be eligible to receive scholarship and/or prize money, students must have a Social Security Number (SSN) or United Sates Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN). For international students the processing time required to receive an SSN or ITIN can take several weeks. International students applying for the Spotlight Program are strongly encouraged to apply for an SSN or ITIN at the same time. Please contact the Spotlight office and we will direct you to the appropriate US government web site, and can also assist you in completing the SSN/ITIN application process.

* All artwork, recordings, and publicity photographs (including student application submissions) pertaining to the Spotlight Awards program are the property of the Music Center. The Music Center shall have the right to reproduce any and all such materials for any and all purposes, including without limitation the promotion of this and future Spotlight Awards events, without compensation to the applicant. Any reproductions shall be the sole property of the Music Center.
