The Teaching Artist Apprentice Program (TAAP) is a multi-faceted teaching artist training opportunity with six major components. The Music Center, with the support of The Dana Foundation, is proud to present this premier teaching artist training opportunity to support the field of arts education.

 WHAT

The Teaching Artist Apprentice Program (TAAP) is a multi-faceted teaching artist training opportunity with seven major components. The Music Center, with the support of The Dana Foundation, is proud to present this premier teaching artist training opportunity to support the field of arts education. As a participant in this program you will be able to:

  • participate in the Music Center’s week long Institute for Educators in the Summer
  • participate in the Music Center’s 10-week Teaching Artist Training series in the Fall
  • engage in additional small group instruction in four 3-hour study groups with in-depth exploration of educational topics
  • shadow and observe selected Music Center Master Teaching Artists working in classroom residencies
  • teach your newly created lesson series for six weeks at a pilot school site with coaching and mentoring
  • define and research an individual project on a self-selected topic and share those research findings in written form and through a presentation to teaching artist peers in a seminar format
  • ave a one-to-one final evaluation with the Program Director which will include career building advice and strategies
Artist participants earn a stipend of $25/hour for a total of 100+ hours. This program is made possible by a grant from The Dana Foundation.

 WHO

The ideal applicant is someone who is:

  • a practicing artist that has had experience in teaching the visual or performing arts to K-6 students in a classroom setting.
  • a past participant of the LA County Arts Commission’s, Arts for All Teaching Artist Training Program, especially within the last three years, or some similar teaching artist training program. Other candidates with experience will certainly be considered.
  • willing to commit to all aspects of this program throughout its duration.
  • enthusiastic to learn, grow, and share their talents with their peers and the educational community.

 WHERE

Course instruction will take place in downtown Los Angeles at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion or the Music Center’s education offices at 515 S. Flower Blvd. The observations and classroom teaching will take place in various schools throughout Los Angeles County.

 WHEN

The TAAP runs from the end of July 2009 to June 2010 for a total of over 100 hours of instruction/teaching/coaching. Please refer to the Program Timeline for specific dates.

The teaching artist apprentices for 2009-10 have been selected.

 Where
