Frequently Asked Questions

I'm not a professional storyteller or photographer. Is it ok for me to submit my photo story?
Yes! The photo story contest is open to adult amateurs who are legal residents of the United States and at least 18 years of age as of the date of entry in the contest.

What is the theme?
The theme: "What's On Your Plate Today?", your photographs must be taken within a 24-hour /1-day time period. You are free to interpret the theme as broadly or narrowly as you like.

I don't live in LA, am I still eligible to submit my story?
Yes, as long as your photo story depicts the above theme.

Are black and white photos acceptable?
Yes, black and white are acceptable, as well as color photos.

What kind of camera should I use?
Only digital images are accepted so a camera that produces digital photos will be ideal.

What is the required size/resolution for the images?
Each photograph must adhere to the following specifications: minimum resolution of 72 dpi; no more than 2000 pixels (width or height); and file size may be up to 5 megabytes. All photographs must be in digital format and submitted online as .JPG files. Sorry, no mail-in, print or film submissions will be accepted.

Can I add a title/name for my story? Are captions acceptable too?
A title/name for your story is optional. However, no captions please.

How many times can I enter?
One entry will be permitted per person.

How many photos do I have to submit?
A minimum of three photographs and a maximum of eight photographs per entry. Your submission must be an original work based on the above theme and must have been taken within a continuous 24-hour window of time.

Will my photos be returned to me?
Unfortunately no, so please be sure you keep a copy for yourself.

What happens after I submit my photo story?
Selected photo stories will be shared publicly via an online gallery at www.musiccenter.org within 10 working days of submissions. Once your photo story is online, you can share your story with friends and family via Twitter, Facebook, email, and much more! Don't forget to remind them to vote for your story May 22 through 30! Votes will be collected via text message, online and phone-in. Open to public voting, six winners will each receive a $300 gift card from Samy's Camera, plus a shared feature in a print publication.
